How the Legacy Fund Will Improve State ParksA portion of the money raised by the Ohio State Parks Legacy Foundation will be distributed to parks each year to make improvements. A larger portion will be retained to build up an endowment fund so that in the future interest income can be used to make park improvements. The legacy fund’s board of trustees will make grants to friends, volunteer and support groups that are organized as non-profits and apply for funding for specific park improvement projects. These projects might be shelter houses, a nature center, playground, etc. The funds will not be given to state government, but will be used to assist the private, local non-profit groups that are working in their community to improve their local state parks. The funds will be provided to the projects that can best improve the experience of visitors to individual state parks with active local non-profit friends, volunteer or support groups doing the work and seeking the majority of funding from their community. |
